How to apply for a mainstream nursery place in Hitchin for 2020/2021

How to apply for a mainstream nursery place in Hitchin for 2020/2021

Although our school does not have its’ own nursery, we wanted to make you aware of how to apply for a mainstream nursery place in Hitchin, in the academic year children turn 4. Parents have the choice of using their free hours of nursery entitlement between private providers or local authority nurseries. Parents need to approach individual nurseries about applying for a place.

In order to make the process easier for parents, all the schools in the Hitchin area with a nursery class, have aligned their application timeline. Although parents still need to apply to the nurseries individually, the process and time frame to do so is the same for all the settings.

The timeline below shows the application timeline for all nurseries in the Hitchin area linked to mainstream schools (Codicote, Highbury, Highover, Offley, Oughton, Purwell, St Andrews and Strathmore Schools). Please note that York Road Nursery has a separate timeline.

This timeline applies to nursery places for the settings listed above for admission in 2020/21 (children who turn 4 between 1/9/20-31/8/21).

Autumn 2019

Hitchin local authority nurseries linked to mainstream schools will make nursery admission information available on their websites.

SCHOOL CLOSURE MONDAY 14TH - WEDNESDAY 16TH OCTOBER 2019. RETURN TO SCHOOL THURSDAY 17TH OCTOBER 2019

SITE INFRASTRUCTURE ISSUES

UPDATE: Friday 11th October 2019

We have seen good progress this week, with a team of contractors on site starting work on the installation of the temporary boiler which we are optimistic will be operational by the close of Wednesday next week.

Unfortunately, having now endured this week of falling temperatures with little sun (which warms the classrooms) and having followed the weather forecast over the weekend and into early next week, I have made the difficult decision in consultation with staff to close the school on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Temperatures are predicted to drop overnight and not reach above 15 degrees Celsius through the day which will result in school not reaching a comfortable operational level for everyone to work in – children and staff inclusive.

I appreciate this may cause childcare issues but I am hoping by informing you now, it will assist you in making alternative arrangements.

Just to confirm the status of the following events:

NETBALL MATCH – Monday 14th October: will be cancelled.

CROSS COUNTRY – Tuesday 15th October: Children participating in this event may still do so and need to be at Knights Templar School by 1pm at Sports Centre Entrance where Mrs McCabe will meet you. Collection arrangements at the end of the event will remain as previously stated.

Year 6 TOWER OF LONDON TRIP – Wednesday 16th October: this will go ahead as planned. Please meet at Hitchin Railway Station as per instructions. All children will need to bring a packed lunch as there will be no kitchen service in school.

Girls ESFA FOOTBALL MATCH – Wednesday 16th October: this will go ahead as planned.

We anticipate school being back open on Thursday 17th October. Obviously, should we experience further complications we will advise via parentmail. Please attend school at normal time on Thursday morning unless otherwise notified.

Thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards

Sue Dury

Sun Safe

Hopefully the sun will stay with us until the end of term, so I thought it would be useful to remind you of our procedures:

All children should have a sun hat or cap to wear when playing out. Ickleford School caps can be bought from Price & Buckland our school stockist @ £4.00 – baseball cap & £4.50 legionnaire cap. Please ensure all are NAMED clearly.

You may wish to apply sunscreen to your child at the start of the day. However, children must not bring bottles of cream into school for reapplication. There are many brands which offer long-lasting/all-day protection and a liberal application in the morning should see them through the school day.

Children should have a bottle of water with them in school each day which should be named.

Children should have summer PE kit for outdoor sports every day (not long trousers).
