Music plays an important role in the life of Ickleford Primary School and each class is routinely and regularly taught music. Through our scheme of work, the children have the opportunity to explore, experiment and improvise with instruments and voices. They learn songs and perform them, often with instrumental accompaniment. They also compose their own music, rehearse it and learn how to evaluate it. The children are taught how to listen attentively and respond to music from a wide range of times and cultures. We routinely invest in a wide variety of pitched and unpitched percussion instruments.

Every year Key Stage 2 work collaboratively on a school production which always includes a strong music element with songs from different genres. Past productions included songs ranging from: WWII songs, film tunes, songs from musicals, soul and reggae music.

For families who wish to invest in instrumental lessons for their child, we also offer a variety of specialist instrumental tuition including: brass, woodwind, violin, guitar, cello, piano and voice.

To extend learning in music outside the classroom, we also have two thriving choirs, who perform in a variety of concerts throughout the year, including music festivals with other local schools and a large gala concert at the Royal Albert Hall.

In addition, Year 3 participates in a First Access Scheme where they are taught the cello in half class groups by an instrumental specialist for the year financially supported by the PTA.
