WHAT SCHOOL GOVERNORS DO?

The role that goverance plays in ensuring that every child recieves the best possible education has never been more important.

Governors and trustees are there to:

  • set the schools vision, ethos and stategic direction;
  • to hold the headteacher to account for the performance of teachers and pupils, and;
  • to ensure that public money is being well spent.

For more information, visit the National Governors’ Association website

The governing body is drawn from a number of sources, but all have the interests of the school in common. Since we are a Church of England Voluntary Controlled School, the incumbent is an ex-officio member of the governing body. Representatives of the Parochial Church Council and the Diocesan Board of Education are also members.

COMMITTEES

At Ickleford Primary School, we have four committees which report in to the full Governing Body. The committees examine their areas in detail at meetings which are generally held twice each term.

Finance – as its name suggests, this committee is responsible for setting the school budget, monitoring income and expenditure, and ensuring we get good value for money.

Buildings, Health & Safety – looks after the fabric of the school and its surroundings, considers what new infrastructure might be of most benefit to the children, and carefully monitors the whole school environment to minimise any physical risks to all users of the school.

Personnel – is responsible for staffing matters, including recruitment and retainment, pay (in consultation with Finance) and school policies relating to people.

Performance & Development – has oversight of the performance of the children – how this is monitored, how the various categories of children perform relative to their peers to ensure all make good progress, and the effectiveness of the interventions in raising standards.

If you are interested in becoming a co-opted governor, please send your details, along with information as to why you wish to be considered, to the school, and your information will be retained by the governing body for consideration when a vacancy becomes available.
