THE ROLE OF GOVERNORS

The role that governance plays in ensuring that every child receives the best possible education has never been more important.

Governors are there to:

  • set the schools vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • to hold the headteacher to account for the performance of teachers and pupils, and;
  • to ensure that public money is being well spent.

For more information, visit the National Governors’ Association website

The governing board is drawn from a number of sources, but all have the interests of the school in common. Since we are a Church of England Voluntary Controlled School, the incumbent is an ex-officio member of the governing board. Representatives of the Parochial Church Council and the Diocesan Board of Education are also members.

We have several co-opted governors whom we have appointed because of their specific skill sets. When a vacancy arises in this category, we advertise as widely as possible for suitable replacements. If you are interested in becoming a co-opted governor, please send your details to This email address is being protected from spambots.
