The Values that Piece us Together

As a school, we are committed to 'Values Education.' Our aim is to build on our high standards by promoting a school ethos which is underpinned by core values that support the development of the whole child. Values Education is not an individual subject in the curriculum, but a deliberate and systematic approach to promoting a set of universally held positive values.

Through the process of Values Education, the children will be provided with opportunities to reflect upon these values and will be actively encouraged to use them in their school life and in the wider community. Promoting this ethos has been proven to help children develop emotional maturity, which is the ability to think and talk about their emotional responses, enabling them to make sound choices and take responsibility for their actions. A by-product of this is that their self esteem and confidence grows.

Each month the school will be championing a new value. We will inform you of the chosen value and its significance in our regular newsletters. We hope this will stimulate discussion for you at home and that you can help us reinforce the importance of this value in the world in which we live.

Time will be given in assemblies to introduce and explore the new value. Fun and stimulating activities will then be presented in class, giving the children an opportunity to reflect upon these ideas and relate it to their own behaviour. All teaching and non teaching staff will emphasise the value of the month in their work and through their contact with the children. The children will be positively encouraged to use the value through their own behaviour.

If a child is seen demonstrating that value they will be rewarded with a piece of ‘Values Bunting' by any member of staff, including teachers, teaching assistants, midday supervisors, office and cleaning staff, and the Head teacher. Your child’s success will be shared with the rest of the school in a Friday Celebration Assembly and finally their bunting will be hung on our Values display in the entrance area for the rest of that month, before being added to a scrap book which remains on display all year round for everyone to read. We aim to celebrate as many successes as possible.

All children, regardless of whether their achievement has been recognised with bunting, will continue to be praised for their good behaviour and positive attitude to learning, thus continuing the ethos that has always been promoted at Ickleford Primary School.
