Our Governing Board
‘Governors know the school well. They know what the school does well and what needs to improve further. They are dedicated and carry out their roles with great diligence. They do not shy away from asking challenging questions to hold leaders to account, but balance this with providing support for leaders when this is needed.’
Welcome to the governors’ section of the school website. I’d like to tell you a bit about what we do …
Our three main roles are to:
- Help leaders set and deliver the school’s vision, mission and strategy
- Hold leaders to account for the school’s performance
- Make sure that the money we receive is used wisely
We also share the responsibility for the safeguarding of pupils – because children learn most effectively when they are happy and secure. The last few years have been tough for everyone, so we’re currently prioritising pupil and staff wellbeing. Finally, we try to build and maintain relationships with everyone associated with the school as well as our local community.
The best way to describe us is as ‘critical friends’; we challenge school leaders, but in a supportive way.
There are also things that we don’t do: we don’t manage the school; nor do we get involved in operational matters; and we don’t make judgements on the quality of teaching – that requires expertise developed over many years in education.
The members of the Governing Board are proud and privileged to be able to contribute to the leadership of Ickleford Primary School for the benefit of children, parents and staff. Please take time to get to know your Governing Board and feel free to get in touch at any time – we’d love to hear from you.

Meet our Governors
There are different categories of governor, but all governors have an equal voice. The school’s links with the Church of England are reflected in the three governors appointed by the Diocese.
